“Pasažieru vilciens” invites to obtain the professional qualification for driving the new electric trains in less than a year

The Centre of Adult Education of Riga State Technical School has announced admission to the professional continuing education programme “Locomotives Technician”, which is suitable both for men, and women. During this programme, over a period of eleven months, students will gain the required knowledge and skills, in order to be capable of driving the new electric trains acquired by “Pasažieru vilciens”, after obtaining the qualification. The studies will take place on weekday evenings and on Saturdays.

“Train drivers have always been highly appreciated and demanded in the railway sector, because train movement is simply impossible without them. Next year, “Škoda Vagonka” will deliver 32 new electric trains to “Pasažieru vilciens”. Consequently, our team of electric train drivers will not only have considerable improvements in their work environment and technologies, but will also need significant additional workforce. This is the time, when passenger transport will become more modern, convenient and accessible, and graduates of the continuing education programme will have a great chance to start working in the railway sector, which has rich traditions, is stable and recognised all around Europe as the backbone of public transportation,” indicates, Edīte Līdaka, the Head of the Personnel Management Division of JSC “Pasažieru vilciens”.

The programme is intended both for men, and women with secondary education, good health conditions (mandatory health check conclusion on suitability of the person's health condition for the job) and psycho-physiological suitability (conclusion on professional psycho-physiological suitability). The study process includes theoretical and practical course and guaranteed qualification practice at “Pasažieru vilciens” as a part of the compulsory programme. After successful passing of the professional qualification exam, the qualification “Locomotives Technician” is awarded, which grants the right to perform operation, repairs and technical servicing of locomotives, electric locomotives, electric trains and diesel trains, and to work as a driver and assistant driver. Studies in this programme are planned to take place from mid-September of this year to July of the next year.

Raimonds Rikveilis, electric train driver at “Pasažieru vilciens” with 20-year work experience, adds: “Our team needs professionally trained colleagues who are motivated to help people in their daily life. Driving a train means being in constant movement. It requires high sense of responsibility, discipline, precision, attention and psycho-emotional resilience.”

“Pasažieru vilciens” is ready to provide long-term job for all successful and motivated graduates of the programme. They will have a competitive salary in the sector, scheduled job, social guarantees, health insurance, life and accident ensurance, and other benefits.
