Starting Monday, 30 March, Elron has launched the sale of domestic tickets in Latvia on the Tallinn–Tartu–Riga route, specifically for the Valmiera–Riga section. Tickets can be purchased onboard from a customer service representative of the Latvian passenger train operator Vivi.

Three Baltic passenger train operators – Latvia’s “Vivi”, Estonia’s “Elron” and Lithuania’s “LTG Link” – announced today in Tallinn the launch of a joint procurement for the purchase of new European-standard regional rolling stock.

In February of this year, 1.4 million passengers used the services of the passenger train operator Vivi. This is 3% or 50,000 fewer than in 2025, but 11% more than in 2024. Electrified lines had the greatest impact on changes in passenger numbers. Passenger numbers on the Jelgava and Aizkraukle lines continued to rise, but on the Tukums and Skulte lines – where the number of trips was reduced due to repair work by VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” – passenger traffic fell by 62,000 and 4,500, respectively.
