Vivi trains carried 21.3 million passengers last year; 98.4% of trips completed on time

12.01.2026

In 2025, a record 21.3 million passengers used the services of the train passenger carrier Vivi. This is an increase of almost 1.9 million, or 10%, compared to 2024, when just under 19.5 million were carried. At the same time, the punctuality of trains - a measure that reflects the on-time completion of trips according to the timetable - reached 98.4% last year, maintaining Vivi's position among the most punctual train passenger carriers in Europe, despite extensive repairs to the electrified network of VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” on the Tukums and Jelgava lines.

Last year, passenger numbers increased on all electrified railway lines where the new Vivi electric trains operate. The fastest passenger growth compared to 2024 was in the direction of Skulte, where it increased by 14%, followed by the direction of Jelgava with 11% and the direction of Aizkraukle with 10%. In 2025, the Tukums line retained its leading position with the highest number of passengers carried, exceeding 7.5 million.

Last year, several non-electrified railway lines also saw an upward trend in passenger traffic - the number of passengers traveling to Sigulda increased by 13%, while those traveling to Daugavpils increased by 8%. At the same time, the number of passengers on the Lugaži-Valga route more than doubled, confirming the growing public interest in convenient and affordable international train services in the Baltic States.

Since the Riga Single Ticket was introduced in July, more than 14,000 tickets have been sold. It allows you to save one euro per journey when using both the train passenger carrier Vivi within Zone A and the transport of “Rīgas satiksme”. About half of these tickets were bought by passengers on the Riga-Tukums route, 24% of tickets were sold on the Riga-Skulte route, 15% on the Riga-Jelgava route, and 12% on the Riga-Aizkraukle route.

Last year, extensive modernisation of the passenger transport infrastructure started - VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” is rebuilding passenger platforms, providing more convenient and safer access to trains, as well as upgrading the electrified train network on several lines. Vivi encourages passengers to keep an eye on the timetable changes due to various maintenance works.
