03.02.2025

In January of this year, we have carried 1.55 million passengers, which is by 21% more than in the respective period last year, whereas trips in the first month of this year have been completed with 98.6% accuracy.

The number of passengers choosing trains for their trips has continued to grow also in this year. As the statistical data of the company for January shows, train traffic has been chosen in the first month of the year by 1.55 million passengers, which is by 21% more than in the respective period last year, when train traffic was chosen by 1.27 million passengers. In addition, we have ensured 98.6% trip completion accuracy level in January, which ranks the company among the most accurate train passenger carriers in Europe and globally.

As the results show, the new electric trains are safe and accurate under winter conditions, demonstrating very commendable results in terms of ensuring trips on time, for example, in December of the previous year and in January of this year the accuracy of trains has been 99% and 98.6% respectively, and these indicators are among the best in the history of the company. Consequently, we consider that acquisition of the new trains and quality of services ensured by them have proved their worth.

This year, thanks to the level of comfort ensured by the new electric trains during trips, an increase in the number of passengers has continued in all electrified railway lines. In Skulte direction, carriage of more than 176,000 passengers has been ensured in January of this year (increase by 41% compared to January 2024), in Tukums direction, carriage of more than 529,000 passengers has been ensured (increase by 23%), in Aizkraukle direction – more than 430,000 passengers (increase by 20%), and in Jelgava direction – more than 258,000 passengers (increase by 19%). Whereas in terms of non-electrified railway lines the largest increase in the number of passengers in January was recorded in Lugaži direction (carriage of more than 71,000 passengers ensured, increase by 13% compared to January of the previous year) and Gulbene direction (carriage of more than 3,500 passengers ensured, increase by 11%).

We continue positive dynamics in the number of carried passengers also in this year, which serves as a proof that train traffic and railway is the backbone of public transport, which is highly appreciated and used on daily basis by increasingly more people. The increase in the passenger demand for railway transport has largely been formed by the development of the segment in general – both renovation of stops and passenger platforms, and rolling stock modernization in the electrified zone, ensuring for our passengers travelling experience that meets all modern standards.
